The Highline College Foundation is offering thousands of dollars in scholarships, and it is making it easier than ever for students to apply. New this year is the online application where students will find a variety of scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500.
Scholarships awards are not just based on need or merit. Some scholarships target single parents while others look for students who have overcome obstacles. Still others are based on the program or degree a student is pursuing, such as engineering, music, and nursing.
The application process is designed to be easy and straightforward, with potentially a great payoff for a relatively short amount of time. Students can access the application from their computer tablet or phone.
Applicants will want to have information and documents handy before beginning: unofficial transcripts, student identification number, social security number, and financial aid information (for need-based scholarships). They should also be prepared to write an essay, which will vary in length depending upon the scholarship.
Scholarship awards will be announced in June 2015 and are for the 2015–16 academic year. Last year the Foundation awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships. The application deadline has been extended to May 29.
