Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Spring Conference for 7th and 8th Grade Girls.

Highline College, Friday, March 20, 2020, 9:00am – 3:00pm

WELCOME to the 2020 Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) event. Highline College 2020 EYH event is scheduled for Friday, March 20. This event is coordinated and hosted by Highline College Women’s Programs and American Association of University Women (AAUW) Federal Way, Highline and South East King County branches and Techbridge Girls.

EYH is a national program which began in 1974 with a group of women scientists and educators located in the San Francisco Bay area. The group focused on ways to increase participation of young women in mathematics. Since 1974 EYH events has grown to 33 states and 3 countries. EYH conferences focus on women in STEM fields as role models to provide hands on experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Highline’s EYH conference is designed to give middle school girls access to STEM topics as well as hands on activities in science, technology, engineering and math. Our EYH workshop facilitators are recruited from STEM industries as well as educators in STEM fields. Our hope is to provide access and exposure to young girls to help spark interest in STEM related fields and industries. Proving STEM related topics to young women who would not otherwise have access to that may help them plan for their future education, training and careers.

This year’s program will host approximately 40 workshop facilitators for 300-400 middle school girls. Workshops range from science, technology, engineering and math topics that are informative and interesting to everyone who attends. Girls can expect to participate in a day of fun and engaging information sharing, workshops with other girls, meet women in STEM industries and education and training.
