A sense of inadequacy often informs the question around “Who am I?” Up until recently, the question of identity often started with “check which box” type of questions focused on things like gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. An inability to fit squarely into a designated box was cause for deep concern. This approach, however, assumed, that identity had to be a fixed thing, rather than being an ongoing process.
A new dialogue is emerging that embraces a more fluid sense of self; a process by which we perpetually re-frame, re-organize, and re-think ourselves. This newly defined dialogue around identity has open doors, which, at the same time, shedding light on doors that still remain very closed off.
