Through Laura’s narrative, many students would identify and relate to struggles of pursuing higher education while embracing the complexity of multiple identities. In addition, students would have an opportunity to explore potential challenges of transferring to a 4-year university. Lastly, students would learn strategies that would help them decide next steps after their undergraduate experience.
Laura Yañez is a LatinX immigrant part of the LGBTQ community and they were born and raised in Colombia. Currently, Laura is pursuing a Master’s degree in Student Development Administration at Seattle University. Laura also works as the Commuter and Transfer Commons Manager at the University of Washington. Laura plans to dedicate their life to fighting for social justice, human rights and to reduce barriers in higher education for students of color and other underrepresented communities.
