Symptoms of what we now call Parkinson’s disease have been described as far back as 1000 BC, but we still do not have a complete understanding of what causes it or why it progresses. Every year, millions of dollars are spent in search of a cure for Parkinson’s disease and while we may be closer than ever, a cure still seems far away. This talk will discuss the history of the disease and its treatment focusing on research involving α-synuclien, a protein found in the brain that is linked to Parkinson’s disease.
