“Life on the river post dam removal”
Presented by Sarah Morley, Research Ecologist, NOAA Fisheries.
For a century, two hydroelectric dams on the Elwha River of Washington State blocked upstream movement of salmon and restricted downstream movement of sediment and wood. The simultaneous removal of both dams was completed over 2011 to 2014. This talk will provide an overview of sediment impacts during active dam removal and an update on fish recolonization post dam removal.
Each month the MaST Center hosts an educational speaker series that is sponsored by Highline College. Science on the Sound attracts local, regional, and national experts who share their knowledge with the local community, generally focusing on interests of the Puget Sound Region. Science on the Sound provides a variety of speaker topics so that we can brush upon peoples differing interests.
