This free event will bring new Highline College students together to connect with campus resources and build a community of support. “First-generation college student” is defined as students whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree in the U.S. During this event, students will become familiar with support services and have the opportunity to speak with staff and student representatives. They will learn how to acknowledge the sense of being overwhelmed and how to find resources to cope. Students will meet other new first-generation college students and participate in community building activities. They will explore what it means to be a successful first-generation college student in an online environment, and will identify one or two strategies to successfully navigate the online environment as a student and member of the community.
