Change for Change
Students will be selling home-baked goods to support the Des Moines Area Food Bank’s Weekend Backpack program.
As you may know, more than 70 percent of the students in the nearby Highline School District are on free and reduced-price breakfasts and lunches. For many of these students, that’s most or all of the food they get in a week. The backpacks, filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods, are sent home with students on Friday and they bring the backpacks back on Monday.
By all accounts, this extra food really helps the students in school. If you don’t eat, you can’t concentrate. If you can’t concentrate, you can’t learn. And if you can’t learn, you will always be poor.
These students are our students of tomorrow; we should try to give them a good start on their way here.
Donations are welcome and your support is greatly appreciated.
