"Love in Action: Evolving from the Ego to the Other" Unity Through Diversity Week-Highline Community College

Dr. Andre Willis: Love as CrucifixionDr. Andre Willis: Love as Crucifixion: Self-love and Self-sacrifice in Service of Solidarity.
9AM, Highline Student Union

This lecture will show the importance of a particular type of commitment to self (or selfishness) that is at the root of any kind of commitment to social justice. For what we are is what we love. Dr. Andre C. Willis is currently an Assistant Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at Yale University where he lectures on a modern liberal philosophy of religion and theological thought

 

Outside of Face, Looking within the Performer: Panel on the Art of Drag
12:10PM, Bldg. 7

During this session, you will experience what the Night time Female/Male Illusionist goes through to make the magic come alive. Through a panel discussion these guests will talk about their experience as female/male impersonators and their day to day lives. Come listen to some of Seattle’s best as they share with you the ins and outs of the off stage performance. This event is a prelude to the evening’s Drag Show.

5:30PM – 7:30PM, HSU, Mt. Townsend Room

Come to Highline Community College’s first Drag Show event. Performers from both the Drag Queen and Drag King Communities will show their best talents and entertain you in an evening you will not want to miss. Some of the headliners will be: Lily Armani, Lady Chablis, and the Mistress of Ceremonies “Alexys Champagne”.

Vagina Monologues film posterVagina Monologues: Film showing and discussion facilitated by Laura Manning

Come celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the one of the most powerful monologues of the decade. The Vagina Monologues, written by Eve Ensler, is an episodic play that highlights issues of sexism and violence that impact women around the world. Following the film will be a discussion facilitated by Laura Manning of the Speech Department

Debrena Jackson: Preparing for ProsperityDebrena Jackson Gandy: Moving from Ordinary to Extraordinary

As a speaker and author, Debrena Jackson Gandy has inspired thousands of women in their personal and spiritual growth. She has been a business consultant and success coach for companies, like Boeing, Nordstrom, and Puget Sound Energy. A graduate of Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA,  Gandy lives in Seattle, WA with her husband, Joseph, and her three daughters

 


Women’s Program: Extraordinary/Ordinary Awards Ceremony

An award ceremony and reception for selected Highline students, staff, and faculty who have overcome major obstacles, accomplished great things or made significant contributions on behalf of women. Open to the entire campus; come celebrate the courageous women on our campus and in our community.
