TOEFL Alternatives
The following students can be accepted to Highline without the TOEFL:
- Students who attended a high school with 100% English instruction.
- Students who graduated from any U.S. high school or a school with which Highline has established an agreement.
- Students who scored at the level indicated on the following tests:
- Kaplan TOEFL Practice Test score of 480/157
- STEP/EIKEN Test: Pre-first Grade level
- Hong Kong Certificate of English Examination (HKCEE): D Level or better on the English test
- IELTS - 5.0 with no band lower than 5.0
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - a score of C or better
- Cambridge Exam - O or A Levels
- South Seattle Community College - Level 5
- Students who have attended an approved ESL program within the United States can be accepted without a TOEFL score. The TOEFL is waived for students from the following schools at the level indicated:
- ALPS Language School - Level 4 & 5
- American Cultural Exchange (ACE) - Level 5
- Central Washington University-UESL- Level 4
- Concord - Level 6
- ELC (English Language Center) - Level 400B with recommendation letter
- EF International Language Schools - Level 107/108 or Institutional TOEFL from EF
- ELS Language Centers - Level 107
- FLS International Intensive English Programs - Level 7
- International House - Level 5 with recommendation letter
- Kaplan English Program - Intermediate Level
- Poly Language Institute - Level 7 with advisors recommendation letter
- Washington Academy of Languages - College Preparation 1
- Washington State University (WSU) -IALC - Level 4
