Homestay

Living with an American family can be a great way to start your life in the USA. As with any choice, there are advantages and disadvantages to consider.

Advantages:

  • You don't feel so alone in a new place
  • You can experience American culture in daily life
  • Living with Americans is a great way to improve your English skills
  • Meals are included
  • You have a connection to the local area from your first day
  • Someone can meet you at the airport

Things to think about…

  • You will need to respect your family's time and space; you are not free to come and go as you please
  • You may not get along with your family
  • There may be children or pets in your family
  • The house may not be close to school
