How to Apply

Step 1

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) either online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or complete a paper application and mail it in the envelope provided.

  • List Highline Community College, 2400 S. 240th St., Des Moines, WA in Step 5.  Our Title IV Code is 003781.

  • Complete the Financial Aid Data Sheet and return it to the Financial Aid Office.

  • Complete an Admissions Application either in person or online.

  • Make sure that the Federal Processor receives your complete and accurate application and all other requested documentation is submitted to our office by the Awarding Cycle Dates.

Step 2

  • In about 4-6 weeks you will receive a yellow (2007-2008) Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail or an electronic acknowledgement via email from the Central Processor.  It will confirm that you have listed Highline Community College and that your information was released to us.  We will receive your application data electronically.  We will then send you a letter indicating how you can check the status of your application.  If Highline is not listed on your SAR when you receive it, please bring in your SAR to the Financial Aid office, or call (206) 878-3710 ext. 3358.

  • Check your Financial Aid Status online.

  • Also, please use our Application Checklist to assist you in completing your file by the awarding cycle date.

  • If your file requires additional documents, you may access the financial aid online forms or contact our office at (206) 878-3710 ext. 3358.

Step 3

  • If you complete your file by our awarding cycle date, submit all required paperwork to the Financial Aid Office, and are eligible for financial aid, you will receive an award notification in the mail as soon as your award is processed.  This process can take approximately 3 months from the time you complete the FAFSA.

  • If you are awarded Work-Study, you must attend a workshop.

  • If you are awarded a Federal Loan, and have not attended a Stafford Loan Workshop at Highline in the past, you are required to attend the workshop before we can process your loan request.

Step 4

  • After receiving an award notification letter, please be sure to read and understand the Terms and Conditions of accepting your award.
