Taking the Placement Test:
Do I have to take the COMPASS?
- All students who are new to Highline and have never attended other colleges should arrange to take the COMPASS placement test prior to registering for classes.
- The reading, writing, and math scores will assist in the advising process.
- If you have attended other colleges and have completed a college-level writing and math class, the COMPASS may not be necessary.

When can I take the COMPASS?
- The COMPASS is generally offered at various times every day of the week except for Sunday. You can check the current schedule:

- You may also call 206-878-3710 extension 3406 to check the testing schedule. Please allow yourself 2 hours to take the COMPASS.

Student Identification Number (SID) ~
What is my SID?
- All students at Highline have been randomly assigned a Student Identification Number (SID)
unique to Highline and designed to protect your confidential records
- The nine-digit number begins with 880 and is used in all registration and financial transactions at Highline
- If you do not know your SID and have attended Highline Community College in the past, you can obtain your number by calling
Admissions/Entry Services at 206-878-3710, extension 3181
- New students can obtain their SID through Admissions/Entry Services
located in building 6 upper level
- In addition to using your SID for all transactions, you will often need a PIN

Personal Identification Number (PIN) ~
What is my PIN?
- Your PIN was originally assigned as your six-digit date of birth (examples:
May 7, 1976 would be 050776. December 17, 1955 would be 121755.)
- If you changed your PIN and have forgotten it, contact Admissions/Entry Services
at 206-878-3710 extension 3181 to reset it to your date of birth
- High school students completing the
Running Start program or students completing the High
School completion program should check with the
High School programs office about their assigned PIN

New to Highline ~
with previous college credits. How can I transfer those credits to
Highline?
- Apply for admission
- Complete a transcript evaluation request
form and submit it to the Registration office.

- Request to have OFFICIAL (sealed) transcripts sent directly from your former school(s) to Highline.

- A credit evaluation will be made and a report sent to you.
- Meet with an Educational Planner in the
Educational Planning Center

Returning to Highline ~I attended Highline Community College in the past and plan to return. What do I do?
- If you have attended Highline in the past and plan to return to your studies, you should
contact the Admissions/Entry Services office to update your information.
- Students who have not attended for at least one quarter will also need to update their records
with Admissions/Entry Services in order to register for classes in the future.
- Registration time will be assigned to all returning
students who have completed academic credits at Highline. Using SID
and PIN, students can access this time online at
https://sec.highline.edu/wts/student/waci004.asp
- Visit the
Financial Aid Office to update your records.
