Highline Defeats Cerritoes Community College 27-16

Justin Purves at 125 lbs defeats Andy Yu by a point.  Sam Ottow received a forfeit at 141.  Jason Gray pinned Jesse Ponce at 149.  Marshall Giovaninni got his first victory of the year by beating Bronson Gerl.  Tyler Story than added another decision at 165.  Casey Park pinned Andy Jay at 174.

Forest Grove, OR
Aaron Smith received a forfeit from Prescott Garner, and defeated three opponents to earn his first title at 133lbs.
Jason Gray knocked off Oregon State D-1 wrestler, and 2 x California State Champion Scott Sakaguchi.

Freshman Jason Gray led all-comers by placing a strong 3rd.  Meanwhile, Spencer Kalebac placed 4th, and Theo McClean placed 6th.    results from Coach Norton
 
11/21/09 Cal-State Fullerton Open (Starters Only) Sat. 9:00am
Fullerton, CA
Aaron Smith 133, Jason Gray 149, Marshall Giovaninni 157, and Tyler Story 165 all make the quarterfinals. Sam Ottow advances deep into the tournament.   All-American Aaron Smith 133, knocked off 3 straight division 1 wrestlers in the championship, but then lost to the eventual champion.

12/1/09 Yakima Dual Tues. 7:00pm
Highline

Highline dominates Yakima 47-0.   Highline received falls from: Sam Ottow 141, Jason Gray 149 ranked #2 nationally, Tyler Story 165, Casey Park 174, and Daren Faber 197.  Justin Purves ranked #7 in the nation, wins at 125.  #1 ranked Aaron Smith won. Also winning: #2 ranked Marshall Giovaninni 157, Tate Collins 184, and Viktor Ognoskie.

12/5/09 Clackamas Sat. 7:00pm Clackamas, OR  Highline was all over Pacific as they dominated them 36-6. Winning wrestlers included   Daren Faber (197), and Viktor Ognoskie (285), both pinning their opponents. 
     Against Clackamas, the Thunderbirds, without two of their top wrestlers, Aaron Smith and Marshall Giovaninni (both with the flu), lost 28-18.  Highline winners included All-American Justin Purves, Jason Gray, Spencer Kabelac, and Viktor Ognoskie

12/11/09 SWOOC DUAL Fri. 12:00pm 
Highline
The 6th ranked Thunderbirds took to the mat at high noon and defeated Southwestern Oregon, 28-15.  Highline winners include Sam Otto, Jason Gray (ranked #2 in the nation at 149),  Marshall Giovaninni (a 13-1 major decision), Tate Collins, and   Daren Faber.

1/10/010 Southwestern Quad. Sun. 12:00pm  
Coos Bay, OR
Highline lost to Southwestern Oregon by one point, 19-18.  According to Coach Scott Norton, the T-Birds came out lethargically after not wrestling for almost a month.  On the winning side, Aaron Smith posted a solid 11-5 decision, Jason Gray, the number 1 ranked wrestler in the country, dominated his match.  Marshall Giovannini won a close match, and David Lopez who wrestled his first match of the year after being out the first half with a knee injury, won decisively.

Highline
The 6th ranked Highline T-Birds wrestling team fell to the 3rd ranked North Idaho College Cardinals 23 to 19.  For Highline,  Aaron Smith and Jason Gray posted major decisions, Sam Ottow won in a fall, and Marshall Giovannini continued his winning ways.

1/16/10 Clackamas Open Sat. 9:00am
Oregon City, OR

 The team got off to an excellent start as they put 4 wrestlers in the Semi-Finals in Justin Purves 125, Aaron Smith 133, Jason Gray 149, and Marshall Giovannini 157.  These have been our most consistent wrestlers all year.
At 149, Jason Gray continued to mow down the competition, as he added 3 more wins to his record.  He is currently 25-4, and undefeated amongst Junior College competition.
Tyler Story
and David Lopez also won 2 matches each.  Tyler is really wrestling well right now.  He could really surprise some people at the nationals.

Highline

Highline wins all three of its meets, defeating Clackamas 19-18, Simon Fraser Univ. 31-19, and Pacific Univ. 40-0.  Aaron Smith, Jason Gray, and Tyler Story each won all of their three matches.

1/26/10 Yakima Dual Tues. 7:00pm Yakima, WA The Highline wrestling team decisively defeated Yakima Valley Community College 36-13.  Justin Purves, Jason Gray, and David Lopez all won their matches on falls and  Tyler  Story and Darren Faber won decisions.
