COMPASS
Assessment
Incoming students are required to be tested for placement into
writing and math courses. The COMPASS test is used to measure a
student's ability at basic college level skills. If the student has
taken the ACT or SAT, that can be used as an indicator of placement
within college level classes. For more information visit
http://www.highline.edu/stuserv/testcenter/compass.html
Academic Advising
All student-athletes who attend Highline are advised by our athletic
academic advisor, Amber Mosley. She will help students register for their
classes that fit with their athletic schedules, choose the program that
fits their needs and interests, answers questions about the Associate
Degree process, keep track of student progress, ensure the student meets
all requirements for graduation. The advisor's goal is to ensure that
all student-athletes are successful both on the field and in the
classroom.
Tuition
One advantage of attending community college is the break in
tuition. Tuition costs at public and private universities are often
dramatically more expensive than at the CC level. The chart below
details the per credit costs of attending Highline College.

Associate Degree
Process
Most student-athletes who attend Highline are graduating with an
Associate of Arts degree that allows them to transfer to a four-year
university with junior status. For additional information on the degrees
offered at Highline, visit the following website:
http://www.highline.edu/stuserv/edplanning/degrees/types_of_degrees.html.
Direct Transfer
Agreement
Students who complete an
Associate of Arts transfer degree at a community college in the state of
Washington will have satisfied all or most of the general education or
core requirements at the various four-year institutions that participate
in the Intercollege Relations Committee. Click
here
for a list of these colleges and universities. Additional information
can be found at:
http://www.highline.edu/stuserv/edplanning/transfer/transfer.html
Honors Program
For students who graduate high school with outstanding GPA's and
want to continue being rewarded for their hard work, the Honors Program
is an opportunity for students looking to be better prepared to
transition to a four-year institution. Students who graduated from
Highline in 2005 received over $400,000 in scholarships for their
continued education. Highline is the only community college in
Washington with this program. Learn more at:

.
Academic
Requirements
All athletes must pass 12 credits the quarter prior to the first
division contest. For example, softball players will need to pass 12
credits in fall quarter to be eligible to play in the pre-season games
in March. She will need to pass 12 credits in the winter quarter to be
eligible to play in the regular season games. Sophomores have additional
requirements. See below.
Sophomore Academic
Requirements
All sophomore athletes must carry a 2.0 GPA prior to the first
sanctioned contest (including pre-season games) and have passed 36
credits to be eligible to play.
Sophomore Transfer
Athletes
If you are an athlete transferring from another NWAACC school and
participated in a sanctioned contest during your freshman year, you are
required to sit out a year. To become eligible without sitting out, you
may file an appeal with the NWAACC stating your reasons for
transferring. Appeals are generally granted to athletes who have
financial hardship and proximity to family's residence issues. Special
cases may be granted outside of these reasons, but all appeals will be
considered for approval by the NWAACC office. Athletes transferring from
college and universities not within the NWAACC must pass 12 credits the
previous quarter of attendance, have passed 36 credits and carries a 2.0
GPA. See the NWAACC Codebook page 9 for more details:

Athletic
Scholarships and Letter-of-Intent
Beginning Fall of 2007, Highline will be offering a 65% tuition
waiver to student-athletes. The amount is based on in-state tuition
rates. Players will receive between one and three quarters of scholarship.
Scholarship decisions are considered by the coaching staff based on the
positions played, skill
level and other intangibles. Each softball team in the NWAACC has 27 scholarships to divide among
returning and recruited players. Players who receive other grants in aid
or scholarships, may not qualify for an athletic scholarship. Those
players with federal student loans do qualify. Once players have given a
verbal commitment to Highline, a request for a letter-of-intent from the NWAACC office is made by the head coach. Players will receive their
letter in the mail after April 1 and have 21 days to sign. The letter
guarantees the scholarship and work study money offered and also commits
that player to Highline. Scholarships are guaranteed unless the
student-athlete does not fulfill her academic requirement of passing 12
credits the previous quarter. Sophomores must meet the 12 credit
requirement and carry a 2.0 GPA. For more information about the
letter-of-intent process visit the NWAACC codebook page 12.
