Jay Nemitz came to Highline with Coach Dawson after four years on his staff at Chief Sealth High School.  At Sealth, Coach Nemitz was a Varsity Assistant for four years, including the 2000-2001 season when Sealth returned to the state tournament after a twelve-year absence. His duties at Sealth also included one year as the Head Coach of the Junior Varsity team and two years leading the Freshman team.

Coach Nemitz began his coaching career at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California, as head coach of the freshman team during the 1997-98 season.  At Bishop Montgomery, Coach Nemitz had the opportunity to learn from Coach Doug Mitchell, two-time California Division III Coach of the Year. Coach Nemitz was on a staff that coached several future Division I players, including the heralded Craven twins, Errick and Derrick, formerly at USC.

During the summer of 2001 Coach Nemitz was a coach with the Emerald City select program. 

In addition to his high school coaching experience Coach Nemitz has extensive summer camp experience as a camp coach and director, serving as a Regional Director for Skyhawks’ Sports Academy, coordinating the operations of Skyhawks’ youth sports programs throughout Southern California.  Coach Nemitz also worked as a marketing intern for the Seattle Sonics and Storm during the 1999-2000 season.

Coach Nemitz grew up in Seattle and attended Roosevelt High School were he was a two-year letterman and team captain his senior year under legendary Washington State High School Coach Ben Snowden.  Coach Nemitz has one brother, Brian, who played four years at the University of Vermont for Coach Tom Brennan. 

Coach Nemitz is a 1997 graduate of Santa Clara University and  has his Master’s in Teaching from Seattle University with an endorsement in special education.  Outside of coaching, he is a real estate agent for Windermere Real Estate.
