Associated Students of Highline Community College (ASHCC)
Duties of President and Vice President 

Preamble to the ASHCC Constitution

We (the Associated Students of Highline Community College) assume responsibilities and privileges of participation in self-government, to represent student interests, needs and welfare within the college community, initiate and coordinate active student involvement, provide the opportunity to develop individual leadership qualities and an understanding of group action, and supplement and complement formal education at Highline Community College, do affirm and establish this Constitution.

All Student Government Officers:

  • Attend all ASHCC Executive and Associated Council meetings
  • Attend all ASHCC sponsored events
  • Participate on various campus committees, as decided upon by the Executive Council
  • Attend various club meetings, as decided upon by the Executive Council
  • Identify and work on at least one project per quarter as approved by the Executive Council
  • Maintain a notebook with accurate records and information on all programs, responsibilities, and materials.
  • Act within the guidelines of state laws, school regulations and rules of the ASHCC legislation and constitution.

Duties of ASHCC President

Serves as the primary advocate for the student body and student government by acting as the direct liaison to the administration and the Board of Trustees.  Provides leadership and organization for the actions of the ASHCC executive council by providing oversight to all student committee appointments and serving as the students’ representative at key college governance meetings.

The President’s duties are as follows:

  • Act as the official liaison between the ASHCC and the Highline Community College Board of Trustees, college administration faculty, and community.
  • Provide leadership to all officers and appointed officials of the Student Government.
  • Sit on the Services and Activities (S&A) Budget Committee.
  • Appoint students to sit on various campus committees.
  • Schedule and be presiding officer of all regular Executive Council Meetings.
  • Be deemed the legislative liaison. Be responsible for studying and reporting to the ASHCC on state and federal government actions and their effect on students.
  • Work with campus administrators to plan legislative awareness programs.
  • Be the public relations officer for the ASHCC.
  • Attend all Associated Council meetings.
  • Facilitate other projects as taken on by the ASHCC.
  • Graduation responsibilities as assigned.
  • Work with Vice President for Administration to develop a training program for new student leaders.
  • Schedule quarterly meeting with college President.
  • Maintain 19 hours per week, with at least 10 posted office hours.

Duties of ASHCC Vice President

Serves as the primary administrator of ASHCC internal affairs.  Facilitates ASHCC sessions and coordinates ASHCC annual projects such as faculty tenure review.

The Vice President of Administration duties are as follows:

  • Schedule, coordinate, promote and preside over all business meetings of the Associated Council.
  • Be responsible for agenda, minutes, and records for all Associated Council meetings.
  • Be student representative on Faculty Tenure Review Committee.
    Monitor qualifications of officers on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintain the Constitution and By-Laws of the ASHCC.
  • Sit on the S&A Budget Committee and work with the ASHCC Advisor to stay current on expenditures.
  • Be the chief financial officer of the ASHCC.
  • Keep track of the operation budget of the ASHCC and see to it that no funds shall be spent without the approval of him/her and the President of the ASHCC. All requests for ASHCC expenditures shall be submitted through him/her.
  • Coordinate all administrative projects for ASHCC (i.e. name tags, notebooks, etc.).
  • Maintain records of all ASHCC sponsored events and activities.
  • Work with ASHCC President to develop training for student leaders.
    Participate on one campus committee as appointed by the ASHCC President.
  • Maintain 19 hours per week, with at least 10 posted office hours.
