Some
players had breakfast … while others could barely get to the 8
am meeting… We checked the weather forecast … it was not good ..
85 percent chance of RAIN for the entire day…
We
decided to give it a little while before making our final
decision … about what to do and besides that .. the USA women
were playing BRAZIL women in the GOLD MEDAL MATCH at 9 am on
TV… We all gathered in the hotel lobby at 9am to cheer OUR USA
TEAM ON…. Wellington and some of the other Brazilians of course
were cheering on the BRAZILIAN women too… It was all done in
good humor and fun … after all …there are no LOSERS in the
OLYMPICS…. It is only a matter of if you get a medal or not…
just taking part in the Olympic games is reward enough….
As
history will show the BRAZILIAN WOMEN took the GOLD MEDAL and
the USA WOMEN took the SILVER…. All in all not too bad of
performance for the USA team… (Yes … it is true a piece of cake
with frosting is better than one without … but having a piece
of cake is better than nothing to eat at all….)
It is now
about noon … the rain has stopped … but it is still cloudy and
the wind is blowing a little too hard to go to the beach to play
volleyball … SO …. What does a women of any age want to do…. GO
TO THE SHOPPING MALL …. (ok … I admit it … it is perhaps a
sexist PIG comment…) (but in this case it is true…)
We headed
out to the shopping mall …about 15 minutes away from our
near-beachfront hotel… The girls were reminded about staying in
groups (we revised the group of 4 rule … to groups of 3 or more
… it made the numbers work out better… and suited the safety in
numbers concern) … The girls had a meeting at 5:30 pm to discuss
the evening activities.
It seems
that 7 of them want to go to a dance club (chaperoned by Coach
Chris and Wellington) the others want to stay at the Hotel.
We had a
brief discussion about how they should dress … the basic point
was that they should dress nice (they were told that IF you
dress like a hooker .. you will get treated like a hooker…) The
girls seemed to take the advice as they all looked nice when
they left the hotel at 9:30.
Everyone
made it back safely … Coach Chris said everyone had a good time
and there were no incidences
