We spent about 30 minutes on our jump serves and then ended with
more digging drills….
If the girls come home with calluses on their forearms …. It is
because we have been digging lots of hard spikes … to build up
our confidence and reaction time to the ball…
The morning practice ended at 11:45 am… And off to lunch we went.
We decided that because everyone had been working hard and …
because everyone is a little DINGED UP. (that is medical jargon
for small injuries )
We decided to take the afternoon session off…
The players can go back to the room to sleep or ice there
injuries .. or they can spend 1 hour in the sun by the pool…
We had our snack at 5 pm and then go watch the BIG GIRLS…SAO
PAULO PRO TEAM vs the Brazilian Jr national team. (I DO mean BIG
… the average height is about 6 ft 1 inch)
We watched their team formations and the plays that they were
running .. as well as Identifying where the setter and hitters
were in each rotation… (something all good volleyball players
should be able to do while playing).
We then went to our practice… at 6 pm..
Today we worked on rotation 2 (one of the 6 rotations of service
reception… ) Both teams were doing the same service reception
…We also required all players to use the jump serve (a new skill
we are working on) …
The score of the first game was 25-23 (just like last night the
team competitions were very close…)
The second game we flip flopped the hitters from one team to the
other to allow the setters to work with everyone. The score of
the second game was 25 – 19 (not as close as previous nights but
still respectable …the difference was the missed serves…)
As the team talk and the team intensity started to fade … we
increased the reason to play hard … LOSING team had to do 5 sets
of sideline dives…. (nothing torturous… but it always better to
NOT have to do them…)
Immediately the intensity picked up and the pace of the game
improved… The final score was 15-13… (once again the games were
very competitive and fiercely contested… )
We ended practice at 9pm and went to dinner…. When we arrive to
the dinning hall we were pleasantly surprised to find that the
cooks had made us PIZZA… Something the girls have been craving
since they arrived…. Apparently Wellington our Brazilian guide,
translator, escort assistant coach and most importantly our
FRIEND had told the cooks that our girls were craving PIZZA… and
they were nice enough to make it for us…..
We only have 1 ½ days left in volleyball paradise…
Bye
from Brazil …
