Brazil Trip 2008                                                              Go to August 26

Monday, August 25, 2008

Hello  from Brazil….
We are in RIO again today …

Today is MONDAY our LAST night here in RIO … we have SOOOOO much yet to do…

The day was BEAUTIFUL… bright, sunny blue sky a PERFECT day to go to Corcovado (the Christ the redeemer stature overlooking RIO … and now officially listed as one of the modern day 7 wonders of the world).

After our breakfast and our 9 am meeting we took several taxis to the base of the mountain where we took the tram up the hill … through the tjuca forest to the TOP of the mountain to have one of the most spectacular views in the world…

All of the girls were snapping photos of everything from Copacabana beach to Ipanema to Nitori (a city across the bay some 20 miles away… It was THE PERFECT DAY to be on the top….

We took our team photo.. then the girls had some time to take more photos before we needed to head down to go to our afternoon scrimmage.

The scrimmage was against the Botofogo club… a top Athletic club in RIO… UNFORTUNATELY… the way we played …. We should have stayed on the mountain..  It seems that taking 3 days off from practice was a bit too much for us… as we floundered and flailed our way through the match…. The most disturbing thing was the lack of effort or enthusiasm…

Lack of skill … is one thing .. but lack of effort .. emotion… and enthusiasm… is something that each player MUST bring to the court….

I do understand that it was our first scrimmage, we are thousands of miles away from home and that we are at the end of our trip (everyone is looking forward to getting home) … BUT….taking some PERSONAL PRIDE and OWNERSHIP on how we compete is an INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBILITY…

We play again tomorrow against a much better team… we hope to improve all aspects of our game…

For dinner almost everyone went to a Mexican food restaurant in Ipanema… IT was AWSOME.. (how can you beat an all you can eat  Mexican food restaurant… )  During dinner some of the girls were trying to resolve some team DRAMA issues….guess time will tell if they were successful or not….

After dinner the girls stopped at the hippy market … (little shops along Copacabana beach that have many hand made things)

Tomorrow is our last day in RIO…

Bye from Brazil …
