The Highline Community College
Men's Soccer Program is one of the premier programs on the West
Coast and the current 2004 Champions of the Northwest Athletic
Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC). Over the past seven
years, Highline has compiled a record of 122-27-17 averaging 66
goals for, 17 goals against and 9 shutouts per season on their
way to accomplishing a .819 winning percentage. During this
time, the Thunderbirds have won four division titles -- Northern
Division Champions in 1998, and Southwest Division Champions in
2001, 2002 and 2003, they have made seven straight playoff
appearances; they have developed two league MVP's, Gerry
DiPietro, 1998, and Fawzi Bellal, 2000; have sent over 46
representatives to the annual NWAACC All-Star Games. Highline
has a strong tradition of moving players on to four-year
colleges and universities. We have moved over 30 former soccer
players on who are or have participated at their four-year
institutions and many more who continued on to pursue their
educational goals.
Coaches:
Head Coach -
Jason Prenovost
is the longest tenured coach in the league, and is entering his
twelfth year at the helm. Prenovost's overall career mark is
152-55-28, a .734 winning percentage. Coach Prenovost began his
career at Highline in 1988 as a player. After two years at
Highline, he was among the first recruiting class to attend
Hawaii Pacific University, where he finished his collegiate
career. Prenovost was then a graduate assistant coach for one
year before returning to Seattle. In 1994, he took over a
Highline soccer program that had a previous season record of
2-8-2. In his first season as head coach, his peers voted him
Divisional Coach of the Year, an honor that he has received five
additional times, in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. In 2004
Prenovost was voted NWAACC Coach of the year after guiding
Highline to it’s first NWAACC Soccer Title. When Jason is not
coaching, he is employed as the Director of Outreach Services at
Highline. He is married to his wife of 11 years Suzanne, and has
two son’s Zachery and Conner.
Commitment:
This program is committed to developing student athletes.
Dedication and hard work has built a program that wins on the
field and in the classroom. Fall Quarter 2004, Highline's Men's
Soccer program finished the season with a record of 20-4-3, and
the team grade point average was above a 3.0. As part of an
athletic program that puts the student first, our players have
access to a full-time academic advisor, tutoring center, and an
on-campus coaching staff. Highline's facilities include a state
of the art weight room, all-weather track, and one of the
premier grass surfaced soccer fields in the state of Washington.
Highline soccer is about picturing yourself at the top and
working hard to remain there.
