2006/07 Season Report
National
Champion 2005
Yura Malamura

Yura is the first wrestler in
Highline history to ever win a National Championship. He is an
extremely hard worker, with unbelievable strength and endurance. The
biggest factors that led to Yura's National Title was his work-ethic,
and his ability to compete on a national stage. He is terrific person
on and off the mat. He now wrestles at #1 ranked University of
Minnesota, heading into his senior year!
Updates (September 2007)
Yura Malamura -
Former 197 lb. National Champion Yura Malamura is now starting for the
#1 ranked team in the country, The University of Minnesota. Malamura
was sidelined at the beginning of the year with a torn LCL. However, he
has proved his durability by posting a 4-1 record.
Jason Mendez - After earning his A.S. degree from Highline, Jason is
wrestled at Embry
Riddle University in Prescott, Arizona, where he was a national qualifier his
junior year at 141 lbs. in the NAIA division.
Jason has now earned his
degree at Embry Riddle and was a 2-time National Qualifier.
Jon
Muri - Jon finished his Highline degree and went on to become a
national qualifier his junior year for the University of Montana- Great
Falls. Since
them, Jon has finished his degree at Great Falls Montanta and was
a 2 -time National Qualifier. John was also ranked in the top 6 his
junior year.
"All 3
were teamates in 2004/2005. They are all some of the hardest workers
I've ever had come through Highline. In addition, they have excellent
character and will always be successful when wrestling is over."
Desean Willis - Desean made a late transfer to Tennessee Cumberland
which is an NAIA school. Desean has also taken over a starting roll at
125 lbs.

Pat Bradley - All-American (8th)
Pat had one of the most devastating force halfs. He pinned
several people on the way to earning All-American honors.

Desean Willis- knocked off several
good wrestlers at the nationals to place a strong 7th and claim his
first All-American status. Desean recently chose to wrestle at
Tennessee Cumberland, an NAIA school.

Brad Padgett-
Brad is clearly the leader on the team. ` Brad was robbed of a national
championship, but demonstrated the character to learn from a loss. He
placed 5th in 2006 to earn All American status. Brad was also the
Region 18 Most Outstanding Wrestler where he downed this year's national
champion 14-7. Before Highline, Padgett only lost 1 match in his final
2 years of high-school. He placed 2nd in state his junior year, and won
his senior year. Brad is now wrestling for the St. Cloud State
University Huskies in Minnesota along with Michael Markey.
In 2007/08 Brad led all Husky
competitors by claiming fourth place at 184 lbs in the Division II
Nationals. Padgett started his day
by defeating #4 Keeno Griffin (Newberry) by a 10-4 decision. Padgett
then took an 8-5 victory over #5 Heath Jolley (Central Oklahoma) before
falling in the third place match to #1 Jared Deaguero (Adams State),
4-3.
