A Message from Coach Littleman
Prior to my coaching career at Highline College, I coached at Renton High School for 10 years.  We won the State AAA Championship 4 times and were runners-up twice.  John Wilson and I took over the head coaching duties at Highline College in the early 80's. During our 19-year coaching period, Highline College's league record was 196 wins 21 losses (we have averaged only 1.3 match loss per year for 20 years).  We won the NWAACC (community college championships) 5 times, were runners-up 2 times and were in the final four, 11 times.  Many of our players went on to 4-year colleges of "their choice" after graduating from Highline.
I am a strong believer in the Community College system.  It affords student athletes some great opportunities.

  • The Community College tuition is about one half to one third of the 4-year schools.
  • It allows many players to live at home, study at home, sleep at home, eat at home and have their laundry done at home.  Thus saving money on dorms, dreaded dorm food and other unnecessary expenses.
  • It allows the student athlete to make the difficult transition from High School academics to College Academics; easier.
  • The Community College class size and the student to instructor ratio are much smaller than most 4-year colleges.
  • The Community College system allows many players a chance to mature both in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
  • Often High School volleyball players become accustomed to playing and starting every game.  Most 4-year athletes do not get the opportunity to play until they become a Junior or Senior in college as there are many more experienced players ahead of them.
  • The Community College system allows greater exposure to 4- year college coaches.  The players on good Community College teams are looked upon by the 4-year college coaches as “proven players”, both in the classroom and on the court.  4-year college coaches look for players that are “proven” and can “step in” and play.

We feel the college experience should be more than books and volleyballs, we feel this year will be an excellent opportunity for a very select and very talented group of players.  We offer athletic scholarships and also have the opportunity for student employment during the year.  This allows the student athlete to earn some extra money, while going to school.
We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about being part of our 2005/2006 championship team.  Please let me know if I can assist you.
