Board of Trustees: Past Members

Karen Vander Ark
Most recent year served: 2007-2008.  Board Chair 2007-2008.
Ms. Vander Ark was appointed to the Board of Trustees November 2005. She has been actively involved in several community service groups including President Elect/Board member for the Federal Way Education Communities in School Foundation; member of the Federal Way Rotary; Advisory Board Member for RedStarhs; member of Heart of Federal Way Schools; former Community Campaign Chair Federal Way EX3 Boys & Girls Club; former board member for the Federal Way Philharmonic and Citizens for Federal Way Schools; former board member of World Class Aquatic Foundation; and former staff member for King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer. Ms. Vander Ark and her husband are residents of Federal Way.

Rita Creighton
Ms. Creighton passed away unexpectedly March 16, 2008  and was unable to complete her term. 

Ms. Creighton was appointed to the Board of Trustees March 9, 2005 and was Board Vice Chair 2006-07. She was the Community Relations and Aviation Education Program Manager for the King County International Airport. She was a past member of the National PTA Board of Directors and held numerous leadership positions at the national and state PTA level, including State PTA President, 1999-2001; was a past Board of Directors Seattle/King County City Year and Americorps Program; was formerly appointed by Governor Locke to A+ Commission-Successful Schools education and reform subcommittee; was a member of the Highline Historical Society Board of Directors; and a member of the SeaTac Occupational Skill Center Advisory Board. Ms. Creighton resided with her husband in Normandy Park.
 

J. Michael Emerson
Most recent year served: October 2005-September 2006.  He was the Board Chair 2005-06, 2003-04 and 1998-99; Board Vice-Chair in 2002-03 and 1997-98.  Mr. Emerson was President of the HCC Foundation 1994-95; TACTC President 2002-03 and President-Elect 2001-02, Treasurer 1999-2001, and TACTC Capital Budget Task Force 1998-2001.  He is a retired Executive from The Boeing Company. Mr. Emerson earned his AB & MBA at Dartmouth College and his JD at Stanford University. He was Captain in USNR-R; Director, Boeing Employees Credit Union 1992-2004, Chair 2000-02; District Chair, Boy Scouts of America; Assistant Scoutmaster; United Way/Boeing Community Fund; Big Brothers; Special Olympics; and WYSA Soccer Referee. His interests include reading, racket sports, skiing and golf.  Mr. Emerson and his wife Jane reside near Three Tree Point.
 

Michael J. Allan
Most recent year served 2001-October 2005.  He was appointed to the Board of Trustees in March, 2001 and was Board Chair 2002-03 and Board Vice-Chair 2001-2002. He earned is B.A. from University of Washington.  Mr. Allan is owner of The Michael James Allan Company, a real estate investment and development firm. He has affiliations with the American Association of Individual Investors, Des Moines-Midway Rotary, Greater Des Moines Chamber of Commerce; Des Moines Economic Development Council. His interests include skiing, scuba diving and sailing. Mr. Allan and his wife reside in Des Moines.

Arun G. Jhaveri
Most recent year served 2004-March 2005.  He was appointed to the Board of Trustees in October 1998, re-appointed September 2003 and served until March of 2005.  He was the Board Chair 2000-01 and Board Vice Chair 1999-2000. He is a Regional Technology Manager at the US Department of Energy in Seattle. Mr. Jhaveri served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students at the University of Washington 1981-82. He earned his B.S. at the University of Washington and his M.S. at the University of Massachusetts, and Post-Graduate Studies at the University of Washington. He was the first Mayor of the new city of Burien, 1992-97. His interests include international travel, sustainable development, technology transfer and urban planning. Mr. Jhaveri, a Burien resident, is married and has two children.

Esther Patrick
Most recent year served: 2001-02. Appointed April, 1998. She was most recently employed as Human Resources Manager for King County District Court. Ms. Patrick is a member of the International Personnel Management Association, Seattle Chapter, and the Washington State Minority and Justice Commission. She is dedicated to helping those in need of assistance for the betterment of their lives. Ms. Patrick earned her B.A. and M.A. Degrees from City University. Her interests include writing, teaching, traveling, and walking. Esther is a Federal Way resident, and has one son and one granddaughter.

Most Recent Year Served: 2000-2001. Appointed in March, 1994. Ms. Keiser is the Communications Director for the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, and is also a state representative for the 33rd legislative district in Washington. She is a board member of the California Working Group, Inc. and International Labor Communications Association, and is President of Western Labor Press Association and member of the Woodmont Elementary PTA. Her interests include reading, traveling, and gardening. Ms. Keiser is married and has three children.

Spouse: Elisabeth, 8 children.

Franciscan Fellow, St. Francis Hospital; Seattle Seafair Clowns; Washington Business Week, Board of Directors. Interests include golf, skiing, reading, teaching.
