Sherrill Miller got a taste for business at Highline Community College. Now she’s an entrepreneur who produces award-winning wines at E.B. Foote Winery in Burien.
Sherrill received her Associate of Arts degree from Highline and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in elementary education from the University of Washington.
She taught as a public-school teacher for 26 years and during that time Sherrill and her husband bought E. B. Foote Winery. Sherrill taught school during the day and worked at the winery at night for 12 years.
Her classes at Highline prepared her well for when she left teaching to work at the winery full time in 2002.
"By offering a variety of classes, I received a well-rounded background of information at Highline to use as a teacher and then later as a business person and winemaker," Sherrill said.

Sherrill’s winery has won numerous awards for its red wines and red blends, including one called Remembrance, a wine made in tribute to her husband who passed away
in 2008 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Sixty percent of Remembrance’s purchase price will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association and Sherrill hopes to have raised $130,000 for research when all the wine has sold.
In August 2011, Sherrill retired; E.B. Foote Winery closed.
