Megan
came to Highline wanting to make a career of helping others. Now, she’s
supporting her mission as the founder of her own nonprofit organization.
Megan is currently working toward an Associate of Pre-Nursing while at
Highline and plans on earning her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at
Washington State University.
“Highline has been a very positive experience for me. I have had
wonderful instructors and have made some really good friends,” Megan said.
“I am so glad that I started my college career at Highline.”
Megan was already spending her time helping others before she began her
college education at Highline.
At 10 years old, Megan started a nonprofit organization, Megan’s Mission,
which provides warm blankets, scarves and socks to Seattle’s homeless
population. She raises about $10,000 annually through her fundraising
efforts.
She was honored for her charity work in 2011 with the nation’s highest
honor for public service at the 2011 Jefferson Awards for Public Service in
Washington, D.C. Megan was one of the five recipients of the Jacqueline
Kennedy Onassis Award for outstanding community service.
In addition, Megan has written three children’s books, including her
latest release, “Growing Up Different.” She wrote the book in an effort to
stop bullying and teasing in schools.
