Highline has helped parents better the lives of their families. Now,
their children are making their own mark on the world.
Lyudmila and her family moved to the U.S. 10 years ago, leaving behind
their home country of Moldova.
She wanted to provide a better life for her family and realized the
importance of earning an education. She completed English language courses at Highline and then studied
nursing.
“In the three years she studied nursing, she was a full-time mother,
full-time employee and provider for the family, as well as a nearly 4.0 GPA
student,” said her daughter, Olga.
She’s now a registered nurse for a local retirement community.
She inspired Olga to go to Highline and to get the most out of her time
in college.
Olga served as student government vice president in 2009-10 and student
government president in 2010-11. She graduated in spring 2011 with an Associate of Science degree in
Biology and plans on transferring to a local university.
“Highline has helped me learn more about myself and the world around me.
I became aware of my natural talents and which classes and topics really
interest me,” Olga said. “I am a completely different person today than I
was three years ago, than last week, than yesterday.”
