    The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges released the following announcement:

     Please join us in congratulating Highline Community College as our new Center of Excellence in International Trade, Transportation, and Logistics.  Highline has a long history of work in internationalization, globalization, and serving the international trade industry.  We look forward to Highline leading the way in combining their expertise with that of all colleges offering programs and courses in international trade, transportation, and logistics to better serve this essential industry in our state.

    Highline's related programs include International Business and Trade, Hotel and Tourism Management, Travel and Transportation, Center for Extended Learning Certificates and Programs and the Small Business Development Center

    10th Annual Unity Through Diversity Week

     
    Empowering Communities:
    Moving Beyond Individualism

    April 23-27, 2007

    Highline is proud to celebrate the 10th annual Unity through Diversity week. Empowering Communities: Moving Beyond Individualism, examines the power of community in the movement for social justice, equity and human rights. This year, Dr. Tricia Rose, Professor of Africana Studies, Brown University, will provide the keynote address on Monday, April 23, at 9:00 and 11:00 in the Mt. Constance room.     International Council Established


    The International Council is being formed to assure broad communication and provide the mechanism for our many international activities to compliment each other. The charge to the Council is to coordinate international projects and activities of Highline. 

    The council consists of Scott Hardin, Chair, Michael Allen, Raegan Copeland, Kathleen Hasselblad, James Peyton.

    Each of these individuals is involved in some aspect of Highline's international activities.  Alice Madsen, Jeff Wagnitz and Marie Zimmerman will serve as ex officio members of the Council.
     

    Distinguished Alumnus Search


    Highline Community College
    is seeking nominations for the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus Award.  The Alumnus Award honors individuals who attended Highline and who are making outstanding contributions in their chosen fields of endeavor.  Highline began the award in 1990 with Norm Rice, former Mayor of Seattle, chosen as the first recipient.  Past recipients have included Junki Yoshida, Founder and CEO of the Yoshida Food Group, Highline’s own Dr. T.M. Sell, Larry Blackstock of NW Cable News, Maurice Sabado of SAIC in San Diego and last year’s winner, Ezra Teshome of State Farm Insurance.

    was named the Distinguished Service Award winner by the Association of Washington Community and Technical College Administrators at the organization’s winter meeting held early in March. Click here for complete story

    South Seattle Community College won the Digital Education Achievement award for Higher Education Web site Category.  This site was built from scratch six years ago by our own Nancy Kent. Aren’t we lucky she decided to come to Highline!

    Financial Aid welcomes Katrina Titchenal and Charlotte Green as the department's newest Financial Aid Advisors. 

    Alice Madsen has been named Highline's Dean of Instruction for Professional Technical Education. 

     

     

     
     
    Cash In for Next Year
    2007-2008 Scholarships Available

    Current and future Highline students can apply for any and all of the 44 scholarships available through the Highline Community College Foundation by filling out one application. At stake is more than $60,000
    in assistance for the 2007–08 academic year, with awards ranging from
    $400 to $2,700.

    Applications are available online at www.funds4highline.org/scholarships.htm      and in the Financial Aid office, Foundation office, and Student Programs office. Application deadline is April 13, 2007, 4 pm For more information, call 206-870-3774.

    Scholarships are made possible by donations to the Foundation from individuals, community organizations and businesses throughout the South King County area.

    Highline Writing Center Presents

    The Highline Writing Center will be
    presenting at the Northwest Writing Center Association Conference in Bellingham on
    April 28th. The title of the Presentation is "Rock, Paper, Scissors: Multidimensional Conversations in the Writing Center."  The panel will include the writing consultants Dulanjalee Seneviratne, Christopher
    Thomas, Andrew Clark, Nikolas Thomas,  Anna Kojenikovna, student writer, and
    Rosemary Adang as WC Coordinator. 
    This will be the third consecutive year we've presented at this regional conference
    .

    Spring Quarter Financial Aid Checks

    Spring quarter financial aid checks will NOT be mailed, as in the past three quarters. Spring quarter checks will be available to 
    pick up beginning April 2 at 10am. Checks
    will be available in Building 2 on April 2 & 3 from 10am – 5pm. After 5pm on these two days, and after April 3, checks will be
    available for pick up in the Cashiers Office, Building 6.
