Highline Names Distinguished Alumni

This year we are honoring two distinguished alumni:

Larry Blackstock graduated from Highline Community College in 1974 and is currently the Director of Operations for Northwest Cable News (NWCN), and has over 25 years experience in the television broadcast and cable industry. After struggling with high school, Blackstock found Highline a transformational place; his work at the closed circuit campus television station inspired his career path. He is married to KING-TV anchor Lori Matsukawa. Their son, Alex, is graduating from high school this year.

Maurice Sabado, graduated in 1970, and is Vice President and Operations Manager for the Science Applications International Corporation, in San Diego. With more than 30 years experience in nuclear science, he has published more than 30 papers on fusion and biomedical technology and holds two patents. Sabado helped develop the proton beam cancer therapy system for Loma Linda University Medical Center. Sabado and his wife, Joan, are active in their community and support the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, which furthers public interest in science and technology.

Redondo Park and Ride Opens

Thanks to the staff, faculty and students that go up extra early to "Ride with the Thunderbird." They rallied to support the college's efforts to promote alternative transportation during the recent Redondo Park and Ride Opening event.  Their presence was much appreciated and I hope this cadre can be called upon in the future for input on parking issues.
