Puget Sound Early College is a small-school, cohort-based program that will emphasize collaborative, project-based learning. Set to open fall 2004, the program will allow promising 11th- and 12th-graders to complete both the diploma and an associate degree. Students will engage in academic study, service, and research projects addressing themes relating to technology and social change, under the guidance of talented college faculty. In an effort to inform students of this opportunity, program staff have been visiting with high school counselors, with 10th-grade classes, and with parent groups. Evening open houses are planned for the Federal Way Center March 31 and April 1. A priority admissions application date has been set for early May. A web site is up, with information for parents, prospective students, and potential job applicants. The site is accessible at http://earlycollege.highline.edu. Program brochures and application materials have been developed, as well. The Puget Sound
Early College initiative, a partnership between local school districts
and Highline Community College, is funded in part by the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation.
