Ambassador from Namibia Comes to Highline Community College

Leonard Iipumbu, Ambassador from Namibia to the United States, Canada, Brazil and Mexico, comes to Highline Community College on February 26-27th to talk about doing business in Southern Africa.

Iipumbu visits under the auspices of the college’s U.S. Department of Education Title VIB Business and International Education grant to conduct a seminar for area business and trade representatives.  Ambassador Iipumbu will discuss Namibia’s business climate, industrial sectors that might provide significant opportunities for investment and trade to area firms, and Namibia’s priorities for trade and development.

Phyllis Shearer Jones, formerly of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, will join the Ambassador at the breakfast seminar to speak on the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).  This legislation opens doors for area businesses to trade with African countries.  Ms. Jones is a leading expert on AGOA and its implications for U.S. firms interested in import/export possibilities.

This seminar is co-sponsored by the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle, a partner with the college on this grant and is being held February 27 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Building 2 on the Highline campus.

In addition to the business forum, the Ambassador will speak at a campus forum on the value of international higher education partnerships, February 26 from noon to 1 p.m. at Highline Community College. On February 26 a reception will be held in building 2 from 4-5:30 pm.  This is open to everyone.
