Over the last few months Highline Printing has experienced tremendous growth. Student enrollment has tripled since September; equipment donations from private sources have exceeded $50,000 since December; and last week our newest addition…. a 26-inch, two-color press. The press is a “Shinohara”, a Japanese company that has been manufacturing offset presses since 1919. They have placed presses in countries throughout the world with many installations in the Seattle area. Although not a 2002 model, this press has all the newest bells and whistles including computerized control from a remote work station, and speeds of up to 12,000 sheets per hour. Full color printing by our department has become the norm, rather than the exception. Full color posters, programs, brochures, and even books are but a few of the items we can now print for our customers. Obtaining this press has been in the planning stages since October of last year. The support and hard work of our Administration and Purchasing departments was key to this acquisition. This new press tremendously expands our capabilities both in size and quality. We are now able to handle jobs that have previously gone off campus thereby providing significant convenience and cost savings. This press elevates the printing department to the level of many commercial shops in the Seattle area. We look forward to working with all campus departments on their future printing projects.
