Highline’s Science Scholars Program names scholarship winners

 

DES MOINES, Wash. — Thirteen science, technology, engineering and math students at Highline Community College received up to $5,265 each from the college’s Science Scholars Program.

 

The scholarships, provided with funding from the National Science Foundation, help cover education costs for an academic year.

 

The scholarship winners, by city, are:

Burien                         Jesse Hamm

Des Moines                 Mark Flynn

Federal Way              Damien DeCremer, Vasili Ialanji and Tri Le

Kent                            Jason Miklovich, Mais Abdulwahab and Gursharanjit Singh

Normandy Park        Ravi Bansai

SeaTac                        Natnael Gezahegne

Seattle                         LeeAnna Miller

Tacoma                       Mong-Tuyen Tran and Steve Raniero

 

The scholarships are available to students who are eligible for financial aid, taking at least 12 credits and have a 2.5 GPA or better. Students must be pursuing careers in astronomy, biology, biotechnology, botany, chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, geology, marine science, mathematics, oceanography and physics.

 

In September 2007, the National Science Foundation awarded Highline almost $600,000 to provide scholarships to students majoring in the pure and applied sciences.

Highline Community College was founded in 1961 as the first community college in King County.
