Susan Pascal Quartet headlines Waterland Music Series

 

Noted jazz vibraphonist Susan Pascal will bring her quartet to Des Moines for the second installment of the Waterland Music Series, Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Highline College Lecture Hall. 

The concert is sponsored by the Des Moines Arts Commission and the Highline Community College Foundation.

Pascal has performed at Centrum's Jazz Port Townsend, Ellensburg Jazz in the Valley, The Vibe Summit X, Bumbershoot, Bite of Seattle, West Seattle Jazz Festival, Marymoor Heritage Park Festival, Issaquah Jazz Festival, Seward Park Jazz Festival.  She has appeared on recordings by jazz artists including Connie Evingson's Gypsy In my Soul, Neil Andersson's C'est si bon, The Plymouth Trio’s Trust, Greta Matassa’s All This and Heaven Too, slide guitarist Orville Johnson’s Slide and Joy, The Jazz Police’s Butterfly, Daniel Barry’s redfishbluefish.  She also is heard on the motion picture soundtracks for The Wedding Planner, Office Space and Eulogy.

She has been noted for her "fluid stick work and coherent, compact solos make this vibraphonist a delight," in The Stranger and for her “blazing 4-mallet technique” in Earshot Jazz.  Her work has been called "breathtaking" in  All About Jazz.

The quartet also includes Chuck Deardorf on bass, Mark Ivester on drums and Randy Halberstadt on piano. 

Highline’s Lecture Hall is located in Building 7, with free parking available in the East Parking Lot, South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South.

The newly formed Des Moines Art Commission is committed to bringing top-flight arts and entertainment to the Waterland community.  In the first Waterland concert, the Finisterra Trio wowed the crowd at Highline in November.  The third concert will of the series features Michael Nicolella, classical guitarist, on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.
