Highline Community College Helps Bring Japanese TV and Music Star to Benaroya Hall

Naoko Ken considered the “Barbra Streisand” of Japan

DES MOINES, Wash.Highline Community College is a co-sponsor of Love, Life, Live, a performance by Japan’s Naoko Ken, scheduled for October 12, 2007, in Benaroya Hall. The concert, which begins at 8 p.m. in the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall, is a benefit concert for the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington.

Highline hosted the Japanese TV star and recording artist Naoko Ken and her husband, Norio Noguchi, a former actor and now Ms. Ken’s agent, in April. The two were in the United States touring the Seattle area for the benefit concert. They also enjoyed their visit with their son, who is a Highline student.

“Opportunities such as the Naoko Ken benefit concert allow the college to highlight one of its international relationships that supports the local community” said interim president Jack Bermingham, Ph.D.

Highline joins Vulcan, a Paul G. Allen Company, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Hyogo Business & Cultural Center in sponsorship. Tickets are $50 each and are available at Ticketmaster or BH Box Office. Call (206) 292-ARTS or go to www.Ticketmaster.com.

With approximately 9,500 students and 350,000 alumni, it is one of the state’s largest institutions of higher education. The college offers a wide range of academic transfer and professional-technical education programs, with online, day, evening and weekend classes, and takes a multi-cultural approach to education for the success of all its students and the prosperity of its surrounding communities. At the core of Highline’s mission and vision are the principles of stewardship for all students, regardless of their backgrounds.
