Event:               Highline Community College’s 11th Annual Unity Through Diversity Week

Highline’s main campus is located midway between Seattle and Tacoma off South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South (Highway 99); address: 2400 S. 240th St., Des Moines, WA 98198.

Description:      Unity Through Diversity Week explores and celebrates the diversity of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, ability and religion. The weeklong program—united by the theme, “Love in Action: Evolving from the Ego to the Other”—will include free educational events, programs and activities.

April 28, 10 a.m. & 11 a.m.: Keynote Address by one of Hawai’i’s best known Native leaders and scholars, Haunani-Kay Trask:  “A Native Daughter” (Building 8, Mount Constance Room) 

April 29, 9 a.m.: Lecture Dr. Jared Ball: “Love and Revolution” (Building 8, Mount Constance Room) 

April 29, 11 a.m.: Head – Roc:  “Love in Action:  A Hip Hop Performance” (Building 8, Mount Constance Room) 

April 30, 12:10 p.m.: Honors Colloquy featuring former president of the Black Student, Kiana Hayes “Achievement Through Systematic Diversity” (Building 7)

May 1, 9 a.m.: Lecture by Dr. Andre Willis:  “Love as Crucifixion: Self-love and Self-sacrifice in Service of Solidarity” (Building 8)

May 1, 12:10 p.m.: Panel discussion on the art of cross dressing:  “Outside of Face, Looking within the Performer” (Building 8, Mount Townsend Room)

May 1, 5:30 p.m.: Diva’s in the Spot Light:  Drag Show (Building 8, Mount Townsend Room)

May 2, 10 a.m.: Lecture by Debrena Jackson: “Preparing for Prosperity”

Highline Community College was founded in 1961 as the first community college in King County.
