Tracy-Ying Zhang  was one of 38 recipients of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship.  Awards were based on academic excellence, financial need, will to succeed, leadership ability, service to others, and interest in or appreciation for the arts.  

The awards will provide scholarships for recipients to transfer to four-year colleges and universities and complete their bachelors’ degrees.

For nine years of schooling, Tracy-Ying Zhang scored at the top of her class in Chengdu, China.  She came to America with her mother, where she enrolled in a Seattle high school and, even without language school, earned honors.

At the age of 16, she enrolled in the Running Start Program. Today, she is focused on physics.  “A career in physics promises constant learning, collaboration with brilliant minds and the excitement of discovery.” She thinks that is just right for someone with her “tenacity and adventurous spirit.”
