Dr. Barbara Clinton, among many other instructors, believed that she
was gifted, that the story she wrote for her first personal statement
was good enough to be published, and that she had a shot at being
accepted at some private, prestigious liberal arts institution. By the time Kim graduated from Highline in June 2006 with a 3.99 GPA, she
was an Honors Scholar, Lead Writing Consultant of the Writing
Center, Chapter Vice President of Phi Theta Kappa, and Treasurer of
the Creative Writing Club.
Kim was accepted at Whitman College where she'll start as a junior
August 2006. She was awarded a Gates Millennium Scholarship
and W.O. Douglas Scholarship from Whitman.
In Kim's words: "I first came to Highline looking for an
escape route. What I found was not the quiet way out but an
opportunity to recognize my strengths and my self. What I found was
