The 15 students of ENGR 290 and their instructor, Rich Bankhead, dominated the Human Powered Paper Vehicle (HPPV) competition at Eastern Washington University the weekend of April 29, 2006.

The competition requires students to build vehicles of not less than 90% paper, present their projects to a panel of faculty judges, then race around the field house track.  During the race the teams must execute two rider changes, avoid obstacles, and negotiate an incline all in a timed competition.

Bankhead led these students to a stunning display of engineering talent and professional project management in a highly competitive event.  Of six possible awards Highline took home three, including Most Innovative Design and 1st and 2nd place for Project Presentation.  Highline placed third in the race itself, missing another award by mere seconds.  Moreover, out of 18 total teams in the competition only seven finished - and three of those were Highline teams!
