Highline Community College has been named the Center
of Excellence for the Washington State Board of Community and Technical
Colleges' (SBCTC) newly developed
International Trade, Transportation and
Logistics (ITTL) designation.
As a Center of Excellence, Highline will receive up to $120,000 in 2006-07
to act as a statewide leader in support of international trade,
transportation and logistics.
“At Highline, we’ve created a network of partners, resources, and key
communicators that provide substantial support to the state’s international
trade and development efforts,” said Highline Interim President Jack
Bermingham, PhD.
“On a worldwide scale, Highline exhibits leadership in this area through
their longstanding ties with trade, government, and educational institutions
in South Africa, Namibia, China, Japan and Turkey; and continues to reach
out to new international
partners, most recently in Chile, Canada, Argentina, Denmark and Mexico,”
said SBCTC Executive Director Charles N. Earl.
Highline is also a leader in national organizations that promote
international collaborations, including Community Colleges for International
Development (CCID), and has received multiple grants from the United States
Agency for International Development (USAID). In the Puget Sound,
college-community partnerships include those with the African Chamber of
Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Trade Development Alliance, and
Prosperity Partnership.
