101 Core Concepts in Nursing I (F) 3
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program. Note: There will be two sections
to this course. Faculty will place students into sections.

NURS 101 is the first in a series of three sequential core nursing theory courses. Curriculum essentials of the functional health patterns and the nursing process are presented. The nursing process is then used as an organizing framework to discuss assessment of the normal and altered nutrition and metabolic, elimination, activity and exercise, sleep and rest, sexuality and reproduction, and cognitive and perception functional health patterns. NURS 101 is the structured theory course presenting material that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 111.

102 Core Concepts in Nursing II (W) 2
Prereq: NURS 101. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into sections.

NURS 102 is the second in a series of three sequential core nursing theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review content related to alterations of the functional health patterns, including nutrition and metabolism, elimination, health perception and health management, and self-perception and self-concept. Nursing care related to acid-base imbalance, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, and a client's peri-operative experience will be explored. Supporting content related to client education, communication, legal/ethical issues, nutrition, and pharmacology are integrated into the units of study for this course. NURS 102 is the structured theory course presenting material that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 113.

103 Core Concepts in Nursing III (Sp) 2
Prereq: NURS 102. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into sections.

NURS 103 is the third and final course dedicated to core concepts in nursing. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations of the functional health patterns, including health perception and health management, nutrition and metabolism, and activity and exercise. NURS 103 is the structured theory course presenting materials that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 115.

109 Nutrition and Diet Therapy for Nurses (F) 1
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program.
NURS 109 is a self-managed nursing theory course. Curriculum covers the units of study for the essentials of nutrition. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including nutrition and metabolism and health perception and health management.

111 Nursing Practicum I (F) 3
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program. Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.
NURS 111 is the clinical complement of NURS 101 and is the first in a series of six sequential clinical practicum courses. Clinical focus will include long-term care and hospital-based acute care. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns in order to (1) apply fundamental nursing skills; (2) achieve some beginning level of communication skills; and (3) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

112 Lab Practicum I (F) 2
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program. Note: Faculty will place students into lab groups.
NURS 112 is the laboratory complement of NURS 111 and is the first in a series of three laboratory classes. The focus of the course is study and acquisition
of basic nursing skills in the campus laboratory setting. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns.

113 Nursing Practicum II (W) 4
Prereq: NURS 111 Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.
NURS 113 is the clinical complement of NURS 102 and NURS 141 and is the second in a series of six sequential clinical practicum courses. Clinical focus will include hospital-based acute care. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns in order to: 1) apply knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in the various clinical settings; 2) organize and perform previously acquired and new skills; 3) apply basic concepts of communication in interactions with others; and 4) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

114 Lab Practicum II (W) 1
Prereq: NURS 112. Note: Faculty will place students into lab groups.
NURS 114 is the laboratory complement of NURS 113 and is the second in a series of three laboratory classes. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns. The focus of the course is study and acquisition of intermediate nursing and math skills and the rationale for implementation of these skills in the campus laboratory setting. Math skills are practiced in computation of medication dosages and other essential math calculations for nursing, including use of decimals, fractions, value of X, ratio and proportion.

115 Nursing Practicum III (Sp) 4
Prereq: NURS 113. Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.
NURS 115 is the clinical complement of NURS 103, NURS 132, and NURS 142 and is the third in a series of six sequential clinical practicum courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review the functional health patterns in order to 1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in an acute care clinical setting; 2) organize and perform previously acquired and new skills; 3) apply basic concepts of communication in interactions with others; and 4) develop and maintain professional
integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

116 Lab Practicum III (Sp) 1
Prereq: NURS 114. Note: Faculty will place students into lab groups.
NURS 116 is the laboratory complement of NURS 115 and is the third in a series of three laboratory classes. The focus of the course is study and acquisition of advanced nursing and applied math skills and the rationale for implementation of these skills in the campus laboratory setting. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns.

117 Re-entry Practicum I ( F, W, Sp) 2
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program. Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.
Individually arranged program of study for re-entry into the first year of the Nursing program. Clinical focus may include long-term care, hospital based acute care and selected community sites. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to: 1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in a clinical setting; 2) organize and perform previously acquired and new skills; 3) apply basic concepts of communications in interactions with others; and 4) develop and maintain professional integrity
as defined by the Nursing program.

121 Pharmacology in Nursing I (F) 2
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program. Note: There will be two sections
to this course. Faculty will place students into sections.

NURS 121 is the first in a series of two basic pharmacology theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including health perception and health management as well as cognition and perception. The role of the nurse as it relates to pharmacology and medication knowledge, medication administration (including conversions among the various systems of measurement), and legal practices and issues will be discussed.

122 Pharmacology in Nursing II (Sp) 1
Prereq: NURS 102. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into sections.

NURS 122 is the second in a series of two pharmacology courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including nutrition and metabolism, and to discuss the role of pharmacologic therapy during various illness treatments.

NURS 131 is the first in a series of two psychosocial nursing theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review functional health patterns, including roles and relationships, values and belief, coping and stress tolerance, self-perception and self-concept, and health perception and health management. Concepts related to the therapeutic relationship, culturally sensitive nursing care, group dynamics, and nursing in the community are also studied.

132 Psychosocial Concepts II (W) 1

NURS 132 is the second in a series of two psychosocial nursing theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including health perception and health management, cognition and perception, self-perception and self-concept, roles and relationships, coping and stress tolerance, and values and beliefs in relation to developmental stages, illness, death and dying, as well as principles of learning and client education.

141 Medical-Surgical Nursing I (W) 4
Prereq: NURS 101. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into sections.

NURS 141 is the first in a series of three medical-surgical nursing theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to examine significant alterations in the functional health patterns, including elimination as well as nutrition and metabolism. Content related to client education, communication, leadership, and pharmacology are integrated into the units of study. NURS 141 presents material that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 113.

142 Medical-Surgical Nursing II (Sp) 3
Prereq: NURS 141. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into sections.

NURS 142 is the second in a series of three medical-surgical nursing theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review significant alterations in the functional health patterns, including activity and exercise as well as cognition and perception. Content related to client education, communication, leadership and pharmacology are integrated into the units of study. NURS 142 is one of three structured theory courses presenting material that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 115.

191 LPN-RN Psychosocial Concepts (F) 1
Prereq: Acceptance into the LPN-RN option.
NURS 191 is the psychosocial nursing theory course for LPN-RN students. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review the functional health patterns in order to (1) review alterations in roles and relationships, self-perception and self-concept, coping and stress tolerance, values and beliefs, and health perception and health management; and (2) examine conceptual essentials of communication, group dynamics, and cultural sensitivity in nursing.

192 LPN-RN Core Concepts (F) 4
Prereq: Acceptance into the LPN-RN option.
NURS 192 introduces the functional health patterns (FHPs) and integrates them within the organizing framework of the nursing process. Students will review and expand experience with documentation, medication administration, and infection control. The focus will be placed on normal and alterations of functional health patterns, including nutrition and metabolism as well as activity and exercise. NURS 192 is the structured theory course presenting material that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 194.

193 LPN-RN Lab Practicum (F) 2
Prereq: Acceptance into the LPN-RN option. Note: Faculty will place students into lab groups.
NURS 193 is the laboratory complement of NURS 194. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns in order to (1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in a simulated acute care setting; (2) organize and perform previously-acquired and new skills; (3) demonstrate proficiency at basic nursing related math skills; and (4) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

194 LPN-RN Nursing Practicum (F) 2
Prereq: Acceptance into the LPN-RN option.
NURS 194 is the clinical complement of NURS 191, NURS 192 and NURS 193. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns in order to: 1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in various clinical care settings; 2) organize and perform previously acquired and new psychomotor nursing skills; 3) apply basic concepts of communication in interactions with others; and 4) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

201 Issues and Trends I (F) 1
Prereq: NURS 142. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into specific class sections.

NURS 201 is the first of two courses designed to explore current issues and major trends that affect the nursing profession. Content related to historical developments, health care issues, communication, leadership, and delegation skills will be presented, along with professional concerns such as career directions and legal/ethical issues for the second-year nursing student.

will place students into specific class sections.

NURS 202 is the second of two courses designed to explore current issues and major trends that affect the nursing profession. Prereq: NURS 115 or 194. Note: NURS 211 is five (5) credits in fall and three
(3) credits in winter. Winter is for LPN-RN Articulation students only. Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.

NURS 211 is the laboratory/clinical complement of NURS 241 or NURS 220 theory course. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to (1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in the acute care setting; (2) organize and perform previously acquired and new psychomotor nursing skills; (3) apply basic concepts of communication in interactions with others; and (4) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

212 Nursing Practicum V (W, Sp) 5
Prereq: NURS 211 Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.
NURS 212 is the laboratory/clinical complement of the NURS 242 theory course and is the fifth or sixth in a series of six sequential clinical practicum courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns in order to (1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults, infants, and pediatric clients in in-patient and out-patient care settings; (2) organize and perform previously acquired and new psychomotor nursing skills; (3) apply basic concepts of communication in interactions with others; and (4) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

213 Nursing Practicum VI (W, Sp) 3
Prereq: NURS 115. Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.
NURS 213 is the laboratory/clinical complement of the NURS 231 theory course and is the fifth or sixth in a series of six sequential clinical practicum courses. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to (1) apply theory knowledge and scientific rationale to the care of adults in both in-patient and out-patient mental health care settings; (2) organize and perform previously acquired and new psychomotor nursing skills; (3) apply basic concepts of communication in interactions with others; and (4) develop and maintain professional integrity as defined by the Nursing program.

214 LPN-RN Community Practicum (Sp) 1
Prereq: NURS 211. NURS 214 is the clinical component to NURS 250.
The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns and discuss health care provided in community-based settings as related to vulnerable populations, maternal-child health, and mental health.

217 Re-entry Practicum II (F, W, Sp) 2
Prereq: NURS 115. Note: Clinical site placement will be determined by the faculty.

NURS 220 is the first in a series of two medical-surgical nursing theory courses for the LPN-RN student. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including activity and exercise and cognitive-perceptual. Nursing 220 is the structured theory course presenting materials that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during Nursing 211 Clinical Practicum.

221 LPN-RN Maternal-Child Nursing (W) 2
Prereq: NURS 192.
NURS 221 is the LPN-RN maternal-child nursing course. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including sexuality and reproduction. High-risk maternal, neonatal, pediatric, and women's health care issues will be discussed with content related to client education, developmental life span, communication, nutrition, and pharmacology.

224 LPN-RN Issues and Trends (F) 1
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing program.
NURS 224 is the LPN-RN leadership course. This course focuses on leadership issues specific to the role change from licensed practical nurse to registered nurse. Communication and delegation skills will be presented, along with legal/ethical issues.

225 LPN-RN Medical-Surgical Nursing II (Sp) 3
Prereq: NURS 220.
NURS 225 is the second in a series of two medical-surgical nursing theory courses for the LPN-RN student. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review significant alterations in the functional health patterns, including nutrition-metabolism, elimination, activity-exercise, sexuality-reproduction, and cognition-perception. Content related to client education, communication, leadership and pharmacology are integrated into the units of study. NURS 225 is one of three structured theory courses presenting material that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 214.

231 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (W, Sp) 6
Prereq: NURS 241.
NURS 231 is the psychiatric/mental-health nursing theory course. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations of the functional health patterns. Content related to client education, communication, legal/ethical issues and pharmacology will be discussed. This course focuses primarily on those psychiatric problems treated in specialized settings such as out-patient, in-patient, and community areas.

233 LPN-RN Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (Sp) 3

NURS 233 is the LPN-RN psychiatric/mental health nursing theory course. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to examine psychosocial alterations of the functional health patterns. NURS 241 is the advanced medical-surgical nursing theory course. Theory knowledge focuses on critical care issues. The nursing process is used as an organizational framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including activity and exercise, nutrition and metabolism, cognition and perception, sexuality and reproduction, and elimination. NURS 241 is the structured theory course presenting materials that will be demonstrated and practiced in the clinical setting during NURS 211.

242 Maternal-Child Nursing (W, Sp) 5
Prereq: NURS 241.
NURS 242 is the fifth or sixth in a series of six sequential nursing theory courses. The nursing process is used as an organizational framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns, including sexuality-reproduction, health perception and health management, and roles and relationships during the obstetrical, neonatal, and pediatric life span for the normal and high-risk client. Content related to client/family education, communication, nutrition, and pharmacology will be discussed.

250 LPN-RN Community-Based Nursing (Sp) 3
Prereq: NURS 220.
NURS 250 is the LPN-RN community-based nursing theory course. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to review alterations in the functional health patterns in order to discuss health care in the community. The role of the nurse in the community will be explored. In addition, health care concepts such as health care policy, illness prevention and wellness enhancement will be discussed.

251 Community-Based Nursing (W) 1
Prereq: NURS 241. Note: There will be two sections to this course. Faculty
will place students into sections.

The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to discuss health care in the community. Alterations to the functional health patterns related to these issues will be discussed. The role of the nurse in the community and home health will be explored.

252 Professional Licensure Preparation (Sp) 1
Prereq: NURS 220 or 241.
NURS 252 is an optional nursing theory course open to second-year and
LPN-RN students. The nursing process is used as an organizing framework to develop self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses in nursing knowledge and to formulate an individualized study plan in preparation for the RN licensure exam. Content related to NCLEX-RN testing and computer-simulated practice will be presented.

291 Special Studies in Nursing (F, W, Sp) 1

100 Nurse Assistant Theory (Su, Sp) 5
Prereq: Acceptance into Nursing Assistant program.
Students are introduced to basic nursing care, safety and emergency nursing procedures, resident's rights and confidentiality. Principles of therapeutic relationships are presented, as well as the legal/ethical issues related to assistant practice.

101 Nurse Assistant Practicum (Su, Sp) 6
Prereq: NURS Acceptance into Nursing Assistant program.
This is the practicum course in which students demonstrate skills discussed in NUR A 100, in both the skills laboratory and during supervised practice in a care setting.

An introduction to human nutrition and health. Students will develop an understanding of the role of each of the essential nutrients in maintaining health and preventing disease. Other topics include energy balance and weight management, food safety, and global food issues.

Aspects of geology, chemistry, physics, meteorology, and biology are integrated into studies of the world's oceans. Topics include the sea floor, plate tectonics, seawater chemistry, atmospheric and oceanic circulation patterns, waves, coasts, productivity, plankton, and marine plants and animals. Includes laboratory.
