Barbara Clinton
Role Model ~ Educator
Experiences That Provide Valuable Life Lessons
Barbara Clinton, PhD, smiles a lot. She has cause to. A
12-year faculty member at Highline Community College, she
teaches speech and honors classes and is widely recognized at
the college as the driving force behind Highline’s
Honors
Scholar program. She smiles because she has helped so many
promising students excel in ways they never thought they would.
As an example, Dr. Clinton’s efforts have resulted in an
increase in the number of English as a Second Language (ESL)
students becoming honors students.
“The influence that Dr. Clinton has on her students is far
beyond what my writing can describe. It is the kind of impact
that lasts a lifetime and changes someone's life forever,” said
Phuong “Kim” Trinh, one of Clinton’s former honors students.
The National Communication Association (NCA) agrees. Dr.
Clinton was chosen as the 2006 Community College Outstanding
Educator. The award is given to faculty who demonstrate an
unparalleled commitment to higher education and an outstanding
contribution teaching at a community college.
“My specialty is ‘opening doors’ for students; it is my
passion. I love
infecting students with my excitement about their potential.”
