Purpose/Mission

The purpose of the campus safety department is to provide an operational force of trained personnel to protect the college and the college community from fire, theft, intrusion, and other unlawful acts which disturb the peace or which place life and property in jeopardy.  In addition, officers may regulate parking and traffic. Assist with crime prevention by providing for the safety of persons on campus and appropriate public services to the college community. They also assist work with law enforcement officers, and perform such functions as needed to protect and assist the college community and the public.

The Campus Safety Office

The Highline Community College Campus Safety Department has professionally trained staff to provide a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors on our campus 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-year.

Our staff consist of 5 full-time and 6 part-time safety officers who are dedicated to protect and serve Highline’s campus community. Each officer attends the City of Des Moines Police Reserve Academy, completing approximately 247 hours of police training. All officers maintained current first aid certifications. Several staff members have experience working on various municipal police departments in regular and reserve capacities, along with additional training.
