The Puget Sound Welcome Back Center (PSWBC) provides orientation, counseling,
and support to internationally trained health workers, immigrants and refugees,
residing in Washington State so that they may re-enter the healthcare
profession. The Center assists our participants with navigating the licensing
and credentialing process for recertification. The Puget Sound Welcome Back
Center (PSWBC) is an initiative of Highline Community College and partners with
Renton Technical College and Tacoma Community College. Funders are BuRRST for
Prosperity and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.
Mission Statement:
To build bridges between the pool of internationally trained medical
professionals living in Washington and the need for linguistically and
culturally competent professional services. Its goal is to assist these
professionals make the best use of their professional skills through respectful,
innovative, and individualized career counseling and educational services.
DESCRIPTION:Under the supervision of the Puget
Sound Welcome Back Center Director, this position will perform work that is
specific to the Welcome Back Center program. Communication skills are crucial
when explaining Program eligibility requirements to clients. The program
coordinator is responsible for providing assistance to Center staff and the
programs’ clients by performing limited case management services as well as
various clerical and program related duties, including event coordination,
assisting with development of marketing material, reception, data entry and
other clerical duties as assigned.
DUTIES:
• Answer Welcome Back participant telephone calls, provide
information to the public and respond to inquiries about the
center’s services.
• Conduct the initial eligibility screening of participants and data
entry and provide limited case management services under the
direction of the Educational Case Manager.
• Maintain appointment schedule for educational case managers and
schedule of
center activities.
• Preparation and filing of participant charts.
• Coordinate logistics for meetings and trainings.
• Coordinate educational and group activities of the center
including arranging for
room assignments, notices and enrollment, event database, and the
Center’s lender library.
• Assist in the development and implementation of marketing
strategies, including
development and information updates of the center’s website.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and
procedures for the
center.
• Coordinate the development and distribution of a newsletter for
participants and other mailings or email announcements.
• Conduct Internet searches and research information for the
development of
program materials as needed.
• Attend weekly team meetings of the center, and other meetings as
required.
• Order and maintain center supplies and resources.
• Maintain and update licensing/career pathways in collaboration
with the Center’s
Educational Case Manager(s).
• Perform data entry and conduct quality control for participant
database.
• Provide photocopying support.
• Delegate appropriate duties to work study students and interns.
• Other duties as assigned by Educational Case Manager or Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
• AAS degree
• Experience interacting with immigrant and refugee populations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Effective time management skills and ability to work in a multi-task
environment
• Excellent customer service and computer skills including WORD and EXCEL.
• Willingness to work an occasional evening or Saturday.
• Ability to work professionally and ethically within a multi-cultural setting,
including ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents,
data and communications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, and at least 2 years experience working with
immigrant/refugee population(s).
• Experience providing counseling or case management services to
Immigrant/refugee population(s
• Fluency in a language in addition to English.
