HISTORY

In October 2002, the College President appointed a campus committee to develop applicable policies and procedures and implement a performance appraisal system for exempt and administrative employees of Highline Community College. Previous to that, there had been no common campus-wide evaluation system for such employees, although several departments had independent systems for evaluating exempt staff.

Based on discussions of current literature, evaluation practices, and Highline’s campus culture and priorities, the committee proposed a performance appraisal process that would not be designed to be the determining factor for salary increase or for disciplinary review, but rather would support "personal and institutional excellence." That proposal was subsequently approved by the College’s Executive Staff.

PURPOSE

The Exempt and Administrative Performance Appraisal System (EAPAS) is designed to help employees achieve personal excellence and help them contribute to Highline's institutional excellence. An element of a good campus climate is the opportunity for staff to exchange views with their supervisors about job goals and expectations, set mutual plans, and seek professional development opportunities to support work place performance. The EAPAS is a tool to help promote that interchange between employee and supervisor.
